We would like to take this opportunity of inviting PhD students researching children’s literature to attend an informal symposium on Thursday 27th June at Homerton College, Cambridge.
Professor David Rudd (University of Bolton) has kindly agreed to give a keynote speech on his research to open the event, which will be followed by six or seven short presentations from PhD students. Lunch will be provided and we shall finish off the day with a round table discussion to reflect on and draw together some of the thoughts and questions arose over the day.
We realise that this event is being organised at very short notice. However, we recently discovered some funding that needs to be spent before the end of June. The PhD Symposium we ran last year was such a great opportunity to share research, receive feedback and discuss ideas that we jumped at the opportunity of holding a similar event! Please let me know by Monday 3rd June if you would like to attend.
For those of you who would like to present, can you send me an abstract (300 words) by Monday 3rd June. We welcome presentations, work-in-progress reports and focused dialogues. The time allotted for each speaker will be 30 minutes (20 minute presentation and 10 minutes for questions). The informal nature of the occasion makes it a fantastic opportunity to share you PhD research and receive feedback from like-minded individuals. It is also an opportunity to practice presenting a paper that you’re hoping to present later on in the year or try out a new idea that you are working on!
Please feel free to disseminate this email to any other PhD students that you think might be interested in attending. We have some money to put towards helping out with travel costs and we would love to facilitate attendance for anyone who is keen on attending.
If you have any questions or queries do not hesitate to contact me.
All the best,
